ROOM 3 - SCIENCE FICTION
Here, we travel to the past… and the future! Welcome to the world of Back to the Future.
The central piece of this room is a Japanese Ibanez guitar from 1984. It’s not the iconic red Gibson we all remember from the Johnny B. Goode scene, but the one Marty uses to play Power of Love. It even features the same band pin on the jacket, just like in the movie.
This guitar has a very special dedication. When Claudia Wells — the actress who played Jennifer Parker — visited the Motor Museum in Alicante (where there’s a real DeLorean), we asked her to write the quote from the scene when Marty tells her he won’t continue with the band. She reminds him of Doc’s words, and he says:
"If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything."
Claudia wrote it word for word, exactly as it appears in the script — even though it wasn’t her line, and it’s been nearly 40 years! At the bottom right of the guitar, you can also see the signature of Michael J. Fox.
She also signed the blue flyer handed out in the street — the one used to collect donations to “save the clock tower.” And not only that: she replicated exactly what she wrote in the film — the “I love you” and the home phone number. A beautiful detail.
At the center of the display is the Sports Almanac, the key plot device of the entire trilogy. Next to it, the hoverboard from Back to the Future Part II, signed by four of the main cast:
- Michael J. Fox (Marty McFly)
- Lea Thompson (his mother)
- Christopher Lloyd (Doc)
- and Tom Wilson (Biff, the villain).
And of course, we couldn’t leave out the legendary “OUTATIME” DeLorean license plate, signed by both Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd.
Here’s an emotional detail: you can actually see three different signatures from Michael J. Fox.
Over time, and due to his Parkinson’s disease, Michael’s signature has evolved. On the older pieces — like the license plate and the guitar — you can still clearly see the “M”, a circle for the “J”, and the “Fox” written inside the circle on the guitar.
But if you compare it to the more recent one, on the hoverboard, that circle has disappeared. Now there’s just an “M” followed by a more fluid “Fox”.
This evolution in his signature is a powerful testament to the actor’s dedication and effort.
